Overview

The Deputy Director for the Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division (PPID) provides strategic leadership for divisional planning and the delivery of UN Women’s Strategic Plan. Based in Nairobi, this senior role involves overseeing the coherence and quality of policy work, managing global results coordination, and spearheading knowledge management initiatives. You will act as a key representative for UN Women in high-level intergovernmental forums and lead the day-to-day executive management of the division to ensure institutional resilience and impact.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the formulation and implementation of the Division’s Strategic Note.
  • Oversee the integration and quality of PPID’s policy and intergovernmental work globally.
  • Ensure systematic tracking, analysis, and synthesis of Strategic Plan results across all impact areas.
  • Champion a culture of evidence-based decision-making through robust knowledge management strategies.
  • Lead day-to-day executive management, including integrated planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Supervise a multidisciplinary team and lead divisional change and transformation initiatives.
  • Represent UN Women in corporate governance mechanisms and high-level stakeholder roundtables.
  • Provide executive oversight of Trust Funds and strengthen collaboration with civil society and regional bodies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in International Development, Public Policy, or a related social science field.
  • Minimum 15 years of extensive experience in programme management and policy development.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the design and M&E of gender equality strategies.
  • Proven track record of at least 10 years leading personnel in international settings.
  • Expertise in Results-Based Management (RBM) and Change Management within large institutions.
  • Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) is an added advantage.
