Senior Associate – Policy and Coordination

Overview

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a strategic Senior Associate to strengthen institutional relations and policy coordination within Kenya. This role acts as a vital bridge between IOM, the Government of Kenya, United Nations agencies, and civil society. You will be responsible for gathering policy intelligence, supporting the national implementation of global migration frameworks, and facilitating high-level strategic debates to improve migration governance across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strengthen cooperation with the Government of Kenya, UN bodies, and civil society to support migration programme development.
  • Policy Intelligence: Gather and analyze information on migration frameworks and research reports to develop concise policy briefs.
  • Capacity Building: Support initiatives relevant to migration policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and curriculum development.
  • Framework Monitoring: Assist in the planning, monitoring, and reporting of the Kenya United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
  • Global Implementation: Support the government in implementing and reporting on the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and the 2030 Agenda.
  • Regional Liaison: Provide ad-hoc policy support to other IOM entities, including the Regional Office for East and Southern Africa and IOM Somalia.
  • Strategic Advocacy: Facilitate joint positions among partners in Kenya to drive improved migration governance.

Qualifications

  • Education: University degree in Political Science, International Relations, or Social Sciences (with 4 years’ experience) OR a High School Diploma with 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Liaison Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience as a government liaison, preferably within the UN, NGOs, or International Organizations.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to develop networks with top-level government officials and the international community.
  • Core Competencies: Effective communication, creative analytical thinking, and strong cross-cultural facilitation skills.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and a proactive, initiative-taking mindset.
