Regional Business Development Specialist
Job Description
The Regional Business Development Specialist supports the growth and sustainability of the East Africa regional programme at Handicap International. Reporting to the Technical Head of Program, the role is responsible for fundraising strategy execution, donor engagement, and proposal development across multiple countries. The position works closely with regional and country leadership to secure funding and strengthen strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to development and monitoring of the regional fundraising strategy
- Identify and track donor priorities, calls for proposals, and funding opportunities
- Lead donor engagement, prospect mapping, and strategic positioning efforts
- Coordinate proposal development processes across country and technical teams
- Act as lead writer for complex and multi-country funding proposals
- Ensure proposal quality, donor compliance, and budget alignment
- Support consortium development, negotiations, and partner coordination
- Maintain accurate business development records and CRM updates
- Deliver capacity-building support on proposal writing and project cycle management
- Facilitate transition between fundraising and project implementation phases
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in development or humanitarian programming
- At least three years’ experience in business development or fundraising
- Strong track record in proposal writing, budgeting, and donor negotiations
- Experience with donor contract analysis and compliance
- Ability to develop results frameworks and SMART indicators
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in English and French
