Job Description
The Membership Communications Intern supports the IUCN’s efforts to engage and inform its diverse global membership base through effective storytelling and digital communication. Based in Nairobi, the intern assists in highlighting member initiatives and success stories, fostering a sense of community among conservation professionals. This role offers hands-on experience in international organizational communication, social media management, and the development of high-impact newsletters within a leading global environmental authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the production and dissemination of Membership Quarterly newsletters and digital updates
- Draft “Member Spotlights” and success stories to showcase the impact of member initiatives
- Support the management of social media platforms by creating engaging content and monitoring member interactions
- Assist in maintaining and updating the membership database and communication contact lists
- Support the coordination of virtual webinars and member engagement events
- Help in the preparation of communication materials for regional and global conservation forums
- Conduct research on member activities to identify potential stories for institutional platforms
Qualifications & Experience
- Recent graduate or final year student pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or Environmental Studies
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to simplify complex environmental topics
- Proficiency in social media management tools and digital content creation software (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp)
- Basic understanding of environmental conservation issues and international organizational structures
- Excellent organizational skills and a proactive approach to assigned tasks
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and remote team environment
- Fluency in English; knowledge of French or Spanish is an added advantage
