Job Description

The Head of English provides strategic and academic leadership for English provision at the Senior School. The role exists to ensure outstanding curriculum delivery, assessment, and academic outcomes while embedding the School’s Christian ethos into teaching and learning. Reporting to senior academic leadership, the position plays a critical role in driving academic excellence, data-informed improvement, and whole-school educational standards within a leading international boarding school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and model the Christian ethos and values of the School
  • Establish, lead, and sustain a culture of academic excellence within the English department
  • Ensure high-quality delivery of the English curriculum and assessment frameworks
  • Develop and enhance overall academic provision and teaching standards
  • Design and implement effective assessment for learning in line with School policy
  • Analyse academic data, identify trends, and implement strategies to improve student outcomes
  • Represent the School professionally to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in English, Education, or a related field
  • Proven experience delivering outstanding English curriculum and assessment outcomes
  • Strong alignment with and commitment to a Christian educational ethos
  • Demonstrated expertise in academic data analysis and improvement planning
  • High level of IT literacy with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic leadership capability combined with creativity and vision
  • Ability to manage complex workloads, maintain confidentiality, and work under pressure
