Educational Business Advisor- Nothern Nyanza — Oxford University Press East Africa (Nairobi)

Oxford University Press East Africa (OUPEA) is seeking an Educational Business Advisor for the Northern Nyanza region (application via Nairobi). This critical publishing and education sales job in Kenya requires a bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Education, Sales or Marketing, and Three (3) or more years in educational sales, with a proven track record of consistent high performance. The Advisor will be responsible for developing the sales strategy for growing OUPEA market share, promoting and selling products to schools and booksellers through workshops and visits, spearheading the expansion of adoptions of front list and backlist titles, and maintaining an up-to-date valid driver’s license and ownership of a Motor vehicle.

The Educational Business Advisor role is pivotal for frontline sales, strategic market penetration, and building key relationships with schools and bookshops to achieve sales budgets in the competitive Northern Nyanza educational market.


Role Overview

The Educational Business Advisor is a strategic sales leader responsible for territory performance. Key duties involve implementing the overall sales strategy, reviewing priority school listing, facilitating workshops, customizing value propositions for OUP titles, actively collecting market intelligence and research findings to capture sales opportunities, and acting as the Relationship Manager for several bookshops to implement the regional distribution strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Sales Strategy & Planning: Develop an overall sales strategy for growing OUPEA market share; customize and implement strategies agreed by the Sales and Marketing Team.
  • Market Penetration: Spearhead expansion of adoptions of front list and backlist titles and maintain existing adoptions; Work to attain sales targets.
  • Client Engagement: Promote and sell products to schools, booksellers and other customers through visits and workshops; Respond to customer issues.
  • Relationship Management: Act as the Relationship Manager for several bookshops; build relationships and offer solutions to market needs.
  • Market Intelligence: Collect data, gather, confirm, and utilize market intelligence and research findings to capture sales opportunities.
  • Reporting: Prepare daily, weekly, and special reports highlighting key issues, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Logistics: Must have a valid driver’s license and ownership of Motor vehicle for use.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Three (3) or more years in educational sales, and a proven track record of consistent high performance. Teaching experience will be an added advantage.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Education, Sales or Marketing.
  • Logistics: Must have a valid driver’s license and ownership of Motor vehicle for use.
  • Attributes: Demonstrated knowledge, skill and experience in sales processes, market research, business account management and training; display ethical behavior and strong time-management skills.
