IT Lab Technician – 3 Posts — Zetech University (Nairobi)

Zetech University is seeking three (3) IT Lab Technicians to provide first-line technical support in teaching laboratories in Nairobi. This essential university IT job in Kenya requires a Diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or a closely related discipline, and a minimum of two (2) years experience. The Technicians will ensure operational readiness by installing/configuring computer systems and software, performing routine maintenance and cable management, resolving hardware, software, and connectivity issues for students/staff, and maintaining accurate records through the asset management and service desk systems.

Role Overview

The IT Lab Technician provides hands-on technical support and administrative rigor for the teaching laboratories. Key duties involve acting as the first-line assistance for troubleshooting hardware/software/login issues, conducting preventive maintenance (cleaning, cable management) to maximize uptime, preparing lab spaces and AV equipment for classes, assisting with software licence audits, and ensuring meticulous record-keeping of assets and consumables in the service desk systems.


Key Responsibilities

  • First-Line Support: Provide first-line assistance and resolve common hardware, software, and connectivity issues in teaching laboratories.
  • Installation & Maintenance: Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems, operating systems, and standard laboratory software.
  • Uptime & Readiness: Perform routine checks, cleaning, cable management and basic maintenance to minimise downtime; Prepare and organise laboratory spaces and AV equipment for classes.
  • Access Control: Support login and access issues for students and staff, ensuring smooth authentication.
  • Records & Compliance: Maintain accurate records of IT assets, consumables, and service requests through the asset management and service desk systems; Follow security protocols and assist with software licence audits.

Qualification and Experience

  • Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience.
  • Education: A Diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or a closely related discipline, from a recognised/ accredited Institution.
  • Skills: Proficiency in computer applications; Demonstrated experience in report writing and record keeping; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
