Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology (JKUAT) is seeking a qualified Tutorial Fellow (Medicine) for its School of Medicine in Nairobi. This critical medical academic career in Kenya requires a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree and the applicant must be registered or undertaking a Masters of Medicine (MMed) in one of the clinical specialties (Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, etc.) OR an MSc in a foundational science (Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology). Mandatory Registration as professionals with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC) is required.

JKUAT’s School of Medicine is dedicated to training Kenya’s next generation of medical practitioners. The Tutorial Fellow position is designed for clinicians and basic science graduates who are actively pursuing advanced postgraduate medical training (MMed/MSc), allowing them to combine clinical practice or research with academic teaching and mentorship at the University level.
Role Overview
The Tutorial Fellow (Medicine) will provide academic support and instruction within the specialized departments of the School of Medicine. Key duties involve conducting lectures and practical sessions in their area of specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Surgery, Anatomy), guiding undergraduate medical students, assisting senior Lecturers, participating in curriculum activities, and fulfilling the requirements of postgraduate training while maintaining professional registration with the KMPDC.
Key Responsibilities
- Lecturing & Instruction: Undertake teaching activities in the area of specialization (clinical or basic medical science) in accordance with the syllabus.
- Student Supervision: Supervise undergraduate students in practical work, clinical rotations, and research projects.
- Academic Support: Coordinate course projects and practical work; assist senior faculty with teaching/learning materials and student assessment.
- Postgraduate Progression: Actively pursue and demonstrate registration in a relevant MMed or MSc program.
- Professional Compliance: Maintain mandatory Registration as a professional with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC).
Qualifications & Experience
- Medical Degree: A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from a recognized University.
- Postgraduate Status: Must be registered or undertaking a Masters of Medicine (MMed) in a listed clinical specialty (Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedics, etc.) OR a MSc in a basic science (Human Anatomy, Medical Physiology, etc.).
- Professional Registration: Registered as professionals with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC).
