Job Description

Subject Teacher -History

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet curriculum objectives.
  • Assess, track, and support student progress through formative and summative evaluations.
  • Prepare students for CBC, KCPE, KCSE, and IGCSE examinations, including administering and invigilating tests.
  • Develop and enhance curriculum materials to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  • Maintain a well-organized, safe, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Analyze student performance trends and implement targeted learning support strategies.
  • Promote discipline and positive behavior in and out of the classroom.
  • Engage in and organize extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports, and school trips.
  • Serve as a mentor and pastoral guide, supporting students academically and personally.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, briefings, training, and school-wide events.
  • Supervise and support trainee teachers and short-term guest educators.
  • Collaborate with education professionals, including mentors, career advisors, and psychologists.
  • Stay updated with subject advancements through on-going professional development.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ teaching experience, having successfully handled a CBE, KCSE, IGCSE or Cambridge IGCSE candidate class with exemplary results.
  • Active participation in co-curricular/extracurricular activities.
  • Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.

Experience and Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective teaching pedagogies and learner-centered instructional approaches.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated, and competency-based lessons that cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Proven ability to assess, monitor, and support student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies.
  • Skilled in integrating modern educational technologies and innovative teaching methodologies into classroom practice.
  • Strong classroom management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high professional standards.
