Senior Registrar (Obstetrics & Gynaecology)

Overview

Mater Misericordiae Hospital is seeking a Senior Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to lead clinical care for antenatal mothers and oversee departmental operations. This role combines high-level clinical procedures, including safe deliveries and surgeries, with administrative leadership. You will be responsible for mentoring junior medical staff, participating in policy development, and ensuring that the department maintains the highest standards of competency and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Excellence: Attend to antenatal patients, conduct safe deliveries, and perform both elective and emergency gynaecological surgeries.
  • Consultation & Rounds: Lead ward rounds with Senior Consultants and provide expert guidance on complex cases to Senior House Officers (SHOs).
  • Departmental Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of the department and assist management in implementing administrative policies and procedures.
  • Resource Management: Advise management on the procurement of medical equipment and supplies; liaise with HR to ensure optimal staffing levels.
  • Mentorship: Coach and supervise Senior House Officers and elective medical students to foster professional growth.
  • Patient Advocacy: Address patient concerns and complaints promptly to ensure a high standard of patient satisfaction.
  • Professional Development: Lead Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities within the department.

Qualifications

  • Academic: Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBChB) and a Master of Medicine (MMED) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • Professional: Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  • Certifications: Valid certifications in ECOG, EmONC, and ALSO.
  • Attributes: Strong leadership, efficiency, and a commitment to high standards of care.
