Senior Policy Expert

Role Overview

This senior advisory role supports national leadership on climate and environmental policy, providing strategic guidance, strengthening inter-ministerial coordination, and positioning Kenya effectively in global climate and environmental platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic advisory support to senior government leadership on climate and environmental priorities.
• Facilitate structured coordination across forestry, energy, agriculture, water, and finance sectors.
• Support alignment of donor programs with national climate and environmental priorities.
• Advise on climate finance access, including carbon market readiness and regulatory frameworks.
• Support preparation of high-level policy briefs, statements, and briefing notes for global and regional forums.
• Promote inclusive policy development by integrating gender, youth, disability, and Indigenous Peoples’ perspectives.
• Strengthen institutional capacity for multi-stakeholder and cross-government coordination.

Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s degree or PhD in Forestry, Environmental Policy, Climate Change, or related field.
• At least 10 years’ experience in senior-level climate or environmental policy advisory roles.
• Demonstrated experience supporting ministers or senior government officials.
• Strong understanding of Kenya’s climate, forestry, and environmental governance landscape.
