Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Technology (JKUAT) is seeking a qualified Lecturer (Medicine) for its School of Medicine in Nairobi. This senior medical academic career in Kenya requires a Masters of Medicine (MMed) degree in a relevant clinical field (Psychiatry, Human Pathology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, or Orthopedics), a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree, a minimum of five (5) years teaching experience (or research/industry), and a proven publication record of three (3) publications in refereed journals (or two scholarly books). Mandatory Registration as professionals with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC) is required.

Role Overview
The Lecturer (Medicine) will provide advanced instruction and academic leadership in their specialized clinical area. Key duties involve delivering curriculum-aligned lectures, conducting and publishing specialized medical research, coordinating complex course projects and practical work, and contributing to the development and review of medical academic programmes. The role requires the highest level of professional registration and a significant track record of publications to enhance the school’s standing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lecturing & Instruction: Deliver specialized lectures in the area of specialization (MMed field) in accordance with the syllabus.
- Research & Publication: Carry out research work in a relevant clinical field; write journal articles and books; and present academic papers at conferences.
- Assessment & Projects: Coordinate course projects and practical work; set, invigilate, and mark examinations/assignments.
- Professional Compliance: Maintain mandatory Registration as a professional with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC).
- Supervision: Supervise medical Tutorial Fellows and students in their research projects.
- Curriculum Development: Participate in the development and review of medical academic programmes/curricula.
Qualifications & Experience
- Advanced Degree: A Masters of Medicine degree (MMed) in Psychiatry, Human Pathology, Internal Medicine, Surgery, or Orthopedics.
- Medical Degree: A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from a recognized University.
- Professional Registration: Registered as professionals with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council (KMPDC).
- Experience: At least five (5) years teaching experience at university level or in research or in industry.
- Research Output: A minimum of three (3) publications in refereed journals or two (2) scholarly books.
