The World Bank Group is seeking an (Associate) Investment Officer specializing in Blended Finance – New Business and Portfolio in Nairobi. This high-level international finance job in Kenya requires an MBA or Graduate degree (finance/investment preferred) and 6+ years of relevant experience working on cross-border emerging market investments, with a proven track record in structuring and portfolio management of complex investment transactions. The Officer will work with teams to identify, assess, structure, and document Blended Finance projects funded by various facilities (IDA PSW, CCW, FOF, We-Fi) and liaise with IFC and MIGA to develop customized political risk mitigation products.

Role Overview
The Investment Officer will be instrumental in expanding the Blended Finance pipeline and ensuring the effective supervision of the portfolio. Key duties include contributing to the modeling of risks and subsidies for investment structuring, preparing extensive documentation for the Blended Finance Committee and the IFC Board, processing client requests (disbursements, waivers), and contributing to knowledge management initiatives to share lessons of experience with internal and external contributors.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business & Structuring: Identify and assess potential Blended Finance projects funded by various facilities (IDA PSW, CCW, FOF, We-Fi); contribute to the investment structuring, including modeling of respective risks and subsidies.
- Documentation & Processing: Work closely with IFC investment teams to prepare and take responsibility for documentation (IFC investment proposal, Board documentation) and processing of blended finance co-investment.
- Risk Mitigation: Work with MIGA/Unified Guarantee Platform on customized political risk mitigation products where traditional products are unavailable.
- Portfolio Supervision: Liaise with relevant staff to monitor weaknesses, risks, and early warning signals in the portfolio of contributor-funded projects; analyze and process client requests (disbursements, waivers, and amendments).
- Financial Engineering & PCM: Have a keen interest in financial engineering for derisking projects and enhancing PCM (Project Cycle Management).
- Strategy & Fundraising: Assist in the preparation of analytical reports and strategy documents; engage with donors and support fundraising and new initiative development.
- Knowledge Management: Contribute to the team’s knowledge management initiative, gathering lessons of experience and impact stories for contributors.
Selection Criteria
- Experience: [6]+ years relevant experience working on cross-border emerging market investments, with a track record of structuring/executing and supervision and portfolio management of complex investment transactions.
- Education: MBA or Graduate degree, specialization in finance/investment strongly preferred.
- Knowledge: Experience with IFC’s investment and portfolio management processes (equity, quasi-equity, loan, guarantee documentation); understanding of local currency solutions and concessional finance blending.
- Competencies: Ability to grasp details, solve problems, identify key issues for action, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and exhibit clarity in the presentation and delivery of information.
