Role Overview

This role provides high-level technical and coordination support to strengthen the delivery of Kenya’s National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy (NLERS). The position focuses on building effective coordination mechanisms, aligning institutions, and embedding robust governance, monitoring, and reporting systems to enable large-scale restoration outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and operationalize NLERS coordination mechanisms in close collaboration with the State Department of Forestry.
• Develop and institutionalize a national NLERS Coordination Framework defining governance structures, roles, responsibilities, and engagement pathways across national and county institutions.
• Prepare a Delivery Action Plan and Progress Tracking Matrix with clear milestones, timelines, and accountability indicators.
• Support harmonization of restoration initiatives across KFS, KEFRI, NEMA, KWS, NLC, and county governments under a unified coordination platform.
• Provide technical support to NLERS governance bodies, including Steering Committees and Thematic Working Groups.
• Integrate restoration monitoring data into national systems such as NFMS, carbon MRV tools, and FOLAREP.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement to reduce duplication and strengthen shared ownership of NLERS delivery.
• Produce progress reports and policy briefs highlighting results, lessons learned, and scale-up opportunities.
• Build institutional capacity within SDF teams on coordination, results tracking, and partner engagement.

Qualifications & Experience

• Master’s degree or PhD in Environmental Management, Forestry, Natural Resources, Climate Change, Ecology, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years’ professional experience in ecosystem restoration, forestry, or environmental governance.
• Demonstrated experience advising government institutions and facilitating inter-agency coordination.
• Strong knowledge of Kenya’s forest and landscape restoration policy and institutional framework.
