Role Overview
The Technical Program Manager will drive the speed and execution of complex engineering projects within the Play Games team, particularly those focused on integrating AI into the gaming experience for both users and developers. This role requires technical expertise to define requirements, manage project schedules, resolve critical roadblocks, and ensure alignment across numerous engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders in a high-urgency environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execution Velocity: Influence and materially increase the engineering team’s speed, prioritizing rapid iteration, robust testing, and fast, successful product launches to users.
- Project Leadership: Lead complex, multi-disciplinary software engineering projects using deep technical expertise, ensuring the rigorous application of Technical Program Management practices.
- Drive Alignment: Facilitate consensus across diverse teams, organizations, and product areas on crucial decisions, including product direction, North-Star metrics, and engineering scope/feasibility.
- Blocker Resolution: Actively identify, dive into, and resolve critical product and engineering roadblocks, often adopting the perspective of a Product Manager or Engineer to maintain forward momentum.
- Planning & Prioritization: Drive comprehensive portfolio planning, meticulous prioritization, roadmap/OKR definition, milestone tracking, and detailed software schedules.
- Communication: Clearly and concisely articulate project schedules, inherent risks, technical trade-offs, and critical decisions to executives, technical leads, and all cross-functional partners.
- Gaming/AI Focus: Work specifically on projects at the intersection of AI (Large Language Models/DeepMind) and Gaming, bringing next-generation technologies to Google Play Games.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Software Development, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Program Management: At least 5 years of experience in technical program management, with a proven history of managing end-to-end projects in a software engineering context.
- Technical Management: Experience coordinating, managing, and facilitating clear communication across multiple technical teams with numerous dependencies and stakeholders.
- Complex Projects: Proven experience managing cross-functional engineering organizations with complex interdependencies.
- Documentation: Ability to produce clear frameworks and documentation that communicate status, scope, timelines, risks, and technical decisions to various audiences.
- Preferred: Experience working within the gaming industry or directly with Large Language Models (LLMs)/AI technologies is highly preferred.
