Job Description
The Studio Technologist supports the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication by overseeing the technical operations of journalism studios and media laboratories. This role is essential for facilitating practical learning, providing technical support for film and gaming productions, and ensuring the reliability of multimedia equipment. The technologist guides students through their practical assignments, manages equipment maintenance, and explores emerging ICT tools to enhance the effectiveness of the university’s media production facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, test, and operate specialized equipment for film, gaming, and virtual productions
- Provide direct technical guidance and supervision to students during practical studio sessions
- Manage the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all studio and laboratory equipment
- Ensure consistent internet connectivity and network performance within the media labs
- Monitor the technical quality of student projects and university-led media productions
- Direct and record audiovisual productions for institutional events and outdoor recordings
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of studio assets and oversee general facility safety
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules for computers and related multimedia accessories
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Media, Film, Animation, or a related field with 3 years’ experience
- OR a Diploma in the same fields with 5 years’ professional experience in an academic institution
- Specialization in Film & Virtual Production, Gaming, or Extended Reality (XR) Development is mandatory
- Technical proficiency in networking and the maintenance of computer accessories
- Familiarity with modern ICT tools used in professional media production environments
- Strong organizational skills with a background in inventory management
