Staff Software Engineer, Google Play
Role Overview
The Staff Software Engineer provides senior technical leadership within Google Play, contributing to the design, development, and evolution of large-scale software systems used by global customers. The role combines hands-on engineering, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across complex engineering initiatives
- Guide and mentor distributed engineering teams
- Set technical direction, standards, and best practices
- Drive alignment across teams on goals, timelines, and delivery outcomes
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance scalable software systems
- Manage project priorities, dependencies, and delivery commitments
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in software development
- At least five (5) years’ experience building, testing, and launching software products
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in software architecture and system design
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Experience leading technical projects and influencing engineering direction
- Experience working in cross-functional or matrixed environments
