Solar PV Technician — Safer Power Ltd (Nairobi)

Safer Power Ltd is seeking a qualified Solar PV Technician responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing photovoltaic (PV) systems in Nairobi. This critical renewable energy job in Kenya requires a Diploma or equivalent (technical training in solar PV installation preferred) and proven experience of 2–3 years as a solar PV technician or electrician in the renewable energy industry. The Technician will ensure all installations comply with local electrical codes and safety standards, conduct site assessments, troubleshoot complex electrical faults, and manage system components (panels, inverters, wiring) for high-performance solar solutions.

Role Overview

The Solar PV Technician performs the hands-on execution and technical maintenance of solar PV systems. Key duties include installing all system components, conducting essential site assessments (shading, orientation), performing complex electrical wiring and testing to ensure proper functionality and grid interconnection, diagnosing and repairing electrical faults and equipment malfunctions, and maintaining accurate records of all installation and service activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Installation & Assembly: Install solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, mounting hardware, wiring, and balance of system components, according to project specifications.
  • Electrical Compliance: Perform electrical wiring and connections, ensuring strict compliance with local electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Site Assessment: Conduct thorough site assessments and surveys to determine the optimal placement of solar panels, considering shading and structural integrity.
  • Testing & Troubleshooting: Test and commission solar PV systems, verifying proper functionality; troubleshoot and diagnose issues, including electrical faults and performance discrepancies.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Repair or replace defective components (panels, inverters, wiring); perform routine maintenance tasks (cleaning panels, inspecting connections) to maximize energy production and longevity.
  • Coordination & Records: Coordinate with project managers and clients for timely completion; maintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations at all times, including proper use of PPE.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Proven experience of 2 – 3 years as a solar PV technician or electrician in the renewable energy industry.
  • Education: Diploma or equivalent (technical training or certification in solar PV installation preferred).
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, components, and installation practices. Electrical wiring and troubleshooting skills, with understanding of electrical codes and safety regulations.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills; commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
