Role Overview

The Senior PHP Software Engineer will take technical ownership of major development projects, contributing to the architecture and scalability of Africa’s largest e-commerce platform. Responsibilities span the full development lifecycle, from technical design and system evolution to implementing high-transaction systems, ensuring code quality, and driving the adoption of best practices across multi-disciplinary teams operating within an Agile/Scrum environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Development: Architect, develop, and implement highly scalable solutions, leading the evolution of the tech stack from legacy systems to modern architectures.
• System Innovation: Drive innovation in core platforms, including payment systems, complex logistics platforms, and crucial customer-facing applications in e-commerce.
• Quality & Security: Champion clean code practices, maintain high performance systems, and strictly ensure a security-first approach in all development and implementation tasks.
• Technical Leadership: Lead technical discussions, mentor junior developers, conduct rigorous code reviews, and drive consensus across multi-disciplinary teams on architectural decisions.
• Project Management: Deliver successful technical projects within Agile/Scrum environments, managing system stability while simultaneously driving innovation.
• High-Performance Technologies: Utilize expert knowledge of message queuing (Kafka), caching (Redis), microservices architecture, and high-transaction platforms.
• Architecture Design: Apply proven experience with modern design patterns and architecture principles, particularly related to Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and scalable system design.

Qualifications & Experience

• Core Expertise: A minimum of 8+ years of professional experience in PHP development.
• Frameworks: Expert knowledge of modern PHP frameworks (e.g., Zend Expressive, Laravel, Symfony).
• Databases: Advanced database skills, including MySQL optimization and experience with NoSQL solutions.
• Technical Proficiency: Deep proficiency in key technologies: Message Queuing (Kafka), Caching (Redis), Microservices Architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and Git version control.
• Architecture: Proven experience with architectural principles and design patterns, coupled with an understanding of scalable, high-transaction system design.
• Methodology: Extensive experience working effectively within Agile/Scrum project management environments.
• Soft Skills: Strong analytical capabilities, fluency in English communication, and the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
