Senior Officer, Fraud Investigations

Role Overview

This role sits at the frontline of protecting Safaricom’s customers, revenue, and brand integrity against increasingly sophisticated fraud threats across GSM, M-PESA, and enterprise platforms. You will combine advanced data analytics, forensic investigation, and intelligence-led approaches to proactively detect, investigate, and disrupt fraud schemes. The position demands strong analytical depth, legal awareness, and cross-functional collaboration, working closely with internal teams, external partners, and law enforcement agencies to ensure cases are evidence-led, legally sound, and outcome-driven. Success in this role directly strengthens internal controls, reduces financial losses, and improves fraud resilience across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct proactive fraud reviews in high-risk and critical business areas
  • Lead and manage complex fraud investigations end-to-end
  • Perform forensic acquisition, analysis, and reporting of electronic evidence
  • Develop evidence flow using link analysis across people, events, locations, and devices
  • Prepare investigation reports, insights, and recommendations for control improvement
  • Represent Safaricom in court on fraud-related matters when required
  • Engage and guide law enforcement agencies to support prosecution
  • Build and maintain intelligence networks across the business
  • Mine and analyse data using SQL, Python, and other scripting tools
  • Identify emerging fraud trends and perform second-level analytical reviews
  • Design monitoring dashboards, KPI reports, and audience-specific insights
  • Support automation initiatives to reduce manual data handling in fraud detection
  • Uphold chain-of-custody principles and strict evidence integrity standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computing, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ hands-on fraud investigations experience in a financial environment
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or similar certification
  • Digital forensics or incident response certification is an advantage
  • Strong data mining, analytics, and investigative skills
  • Good understanding of GSM and M-PESA fraud risk landscapes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Independent, analytical, and ethically grounded professional
