Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer at Turaco provides technical leadership in architecting and optimizing scalable data infrastructure for the FinTech industry. This role focuses on designing robust pipelines that handle sensitive financial data with high reliability and accuracy. The engineer is responsible for moving beyond execution to strategic system design—ensuring that data architectures meet rigorous security standards such as PCI-DSS and GDPR while providing the business with actionable insights through advanced ETL processes and real-time streaming solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect optimal data pipelines for batch and real-time streaming using Kafka or Spark
• Re-design existing infrastructure for greater scalability and automate manual data processes
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT architectures to extract data from core banking systems and third-party APIs
• Proactively implement quality checks to ensure financial reporting and customer balances are 100% accurate
• Ensure strict compliance with data governance, financial regulations, and security policies
• Perform deep root cause analysis to resolve data anomalies and internal process issues immediately
• Mentor junior data engineers and foster a collaborative, low-ego technical culture
• Develop analytics tools to provide insights into operational efficiency and customer acquisition

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, IT, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, preferably within the FinTech or Financial Services sector
• Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala
• Expert-level SQL skills and hands-on experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift)
• Working knowledge of message queuing (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and orchestration tools (Airflow, DBT)
• Deep understanding of data modeling and database design
