Registration Officer
Role Overview
Are you passionate about the legal frameworks that govern Kenya’s democratic landscape? We are looking for a Registration Officer to join our team, where you’ll play a key part in the provisional and full registration of political parties. Depending on your deployment, you might spend your day at headquarters scrutinizing merger agreements and drafting gazette notices, or out in the field verifying the physical existence of party offices across the counties. If you enjoy a mix of deep legal research, stakeholder mobilization, and ensuring that every political entity plays by the rules set out in the Political Parties Act, this role offers a front-row seat to the regulation of our political system.
Key Responsibilities
- You will scrutinize applications for party registration to ensure they meet every requirement of the Political Parties Act.
- You’ll help draft the statutory documents that go out for public advertisement in the Gazette and national newspapers.
- Your day-to-day might include visiting regional offices to verify that political party records are actually available on the ground.
- You will act as an advisor to applicants, helping them understand the legal steps for registration or changing party particulars.
- You’ll mobilize partners at the county level for capacity-building sessions and political party sensitization activities.
- You will research and compile status reports on the national register of political parties to keep our leadership informed.
Qualifications
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field.
- Alternatively, you have a Diploma with 6 years of experience, including 3 years in a senior registration capacity.
- You are tech-savvy and proficient in modern computer applications.
- You have a clean professional record and meet all Chapter Six constitutional requirements.
- You have a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret complex legislative frameworks.
How to Apply
Successful candidates shall be required to comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and will be required to submit among other documents:
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI);
- Valid Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
- Current duly filled and stamped Self-Declaration/Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC);
- A current Clearance Certificate from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
