Role Overview

The World Bank Group requires a Regional Industry Director for Infrastructure and Natural Resources (INR) to manage the strategic expansion of our Africa portfolio. This is a factual, high-level executive appointment focused on the development of geographically balanced investment strategies across East and Southern Africa. The role involves the primary supervision of INR Managers and the direct oversight of IFC’s risk management and ESG practices. All activities must be performed in accordance with the World Bank Group’s mission to foster sustainable development impact in FCV and low-income countries through policy dialogue and superior business judgment.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct the development and execution of the INR strategy for the East and Southern Africa region.
• Oversee the growth of the regional portfolio while ensuring strict adherence to ESG and risk management standards.
• Represent the IFC to key public and private sector stakeholders, building long-term strategic relationships.
• Monitor the pipeline to ensure investment pacing avoids bunching throughout the fiscal year.
• Lead multi-sectoral responses in partnership with the Knowledge Bank to identify joint venture opportunities.
• Manage a large, dispersed team, fostering a culture of innovation and system-level process improvements.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business.
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in international finance and investment.
• Proven track record of business delivery covering banks, fintech, and capital markets.
• Demonstrated ability to lead dispersed teams in a dynamic, multicultural environment.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French or Arabic is a significant advantage.
