Role Overview

The IT Intern provides foundational technical support and administrative assistance. Key duties involve assisting senior staff with routine technical tasks (installation, configuration, maintenance), helping to resolve basic hardware/software issues, maintaining lab readiness (cable management, tidiness), assisting with re-imaging lab machines and deploying updates, performing inventory checks, and documenting issues within the helpdesk ticketing system.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Support: Assist senior IT staff with installation, configuration and maintenance of computers and operating systems; Assist in resolving basic problems (printing, software access and network connectivity).
• Lab Readiness: Help set up and dismantle IT equipment for classes; Assist in re-imaging lab machines and deploying software updates; Maintain lab readiness through cable management and tidiness.
• Inventory & Helpdesk: Work with the Lab Technician to carry out inventory checks and update the asset register accurately; Use the helpdesk ticketing system and document issues.
• Learning & Meetings: Participate in departmental meetings and training; Hands-on individual, with personal drive and ability to respond efficiently.

Qualification and Experience

• Education: A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology from a recognised/accredited university, having graduated within the last year.
• Skills: Good communication and interpersonal skills; Good IT skills; Hands-on individual, with personal drive.
• Other (Not mandatory): Being registered for or having completed the Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) (Note: This requirement seems extraneous for an IT role).
