Job Description

The Internal Auditor provides independent and objective assurance designed to improve the University’s governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks. This role focuses on performing risk-based audits and delivering practical recommendations to strengthen operational efficiency and ensure regulatory compliance. By fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, the auditor supports the institution’s goals for value creation, protection, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute internal audit engagements according to professional standards and the annual audit plan
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential exposure areas across the University
• Prepare clear audit reports detailing findings, conclusions, and actionable corrective recommendations
• Monitor and track the implementation of agreed-upon audit recommendations by various business units
• Review compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and applicable national laws
• Provide advisory support to management on risk mitigation and process improvement initiatives
• Conduct investigative audits and special assignments as directed by the University leadership
• Promote institutional awareness of internal controls and audit processes to enhance accountability

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management (Minimum Upper Second-Class Honours)
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) qualification or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant audit experience within a reputable organization
• Proficiency in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and standard computer applications
• Strong understanding of risk-based auditing methodologies and internal control frameworks
• CIA or CISA certification is considered a significant added advantage
• High standards of ethics, analytical thinking, and attention to detail
