Job Description
Instructor/Registrar (ICU & HDU)
Role Overview
The gap between general ward care and the Intensive Care Unit is bridged by the technical expertise and rapid diagnostic ability of our Critical Care team. We are looking for an Instructor/Registrar to solve the problem of managing critically ill patients by delivering high-fidelity clinical assessments and life-saving interventions in the ICU and HDU. Your role is to resolve the complexities of medical-surgical crises through multidisciplinary rounds and to bridge the knowledge gap for junior staff by providing on-the-job clinical instruction. By assisting in the triage of potential critical care cases via phone or in-person, you will ensure that only the most appropriate resources are utilized for our highest-acuity patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolve critical patient instabilities by developing care plans and interpreting complex diagnostic studies under consultant supervision.
- Eliminate clinical errors by providing direct instruction and oversight to interns and resident doctors within the unit.
- Solve triage delays by assisting non-critical care providers in the initial assessment of potential ICU admissions.
- Facilitate the development of best practice guidelines and departmental policies for critical care health.
- Resolve resource waste by coordinating closely with the multidisciplinary team to improve skillfulness and equipment utilization.
- Bridge the gap in institutional learning by presenting at weekly Morbidity and Mortality meetings.
Qualifications
- MBChB degree and MMed in Internal Medicine, Anesthesia, or Emergency Medicine (or equivalent residency).
- Active registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Valid BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Demonstrated dexterity with advanced hospital equipment and electronic medical records.
- Proven ability to maintain integrity and composure in high-stakes clinical environments.
