Human Resource Management & Administration Trainee — ShopIt Store (Nairobi, Kenya)

ShopIt Store is seeking a highly disciplined and detail-oriented Human Resource Management & Administration Trainee to join their team in Nairobi, Kenya. This trainee role is designed for a dedicated recent graduate eager to gain comprehensive experience across key HR functions, including recruitment, policy formulation, statutory compliance, and payroll management within a fast-paced retail and technology environment in Kenya.

Position Summary & Impact 🎯

The HR Trainee will support critical functions from recruitment and onboarding to monitoring employee performance and ensuring compliance with company and statutory policies. Key tasks include benchmarking position requirements, leading the shortlisting and interview process, managing employee contracts, and ensuring the accurate calculation and remittance of statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF, NHIF). This role requires a strong work ethic and the ability to manage complex administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities 🔑

  • Lead in benchmarking and formally formulating position requirements for vacant roles.
  • Ensure vacant positions receive maximum exposure and lead the shortlisting, interviewing, and orienting of new employees.
  • Manage employee contracts and ensure compliance with all internal and Kenyan labor policies.
  • Ensure the accurate calculation and remittance of statutory deductions from the payroll to relevant government bodies.
  • Research, formulate, and actively implement new and updated HR policies across the organization.
  • Monitor and enforce strict adherence to company policies and manage employee incentive programs.
  • Follow up on and monitor employee work performance, providing necessary reports and feedback.
  • Manage all other assigned Human Resource-related and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Qualifications & Experience 🎓

  • Mandatory Requirement: At least a mean grade of B (plain) in KCSE/High School.
  • Education: At least a Bachelor’s degree from a reputable institution.
  • Training: Must have completed Human Resource Management Training experience (e.g., related diploma, degree, or professional certificate).
  • Technology: Must be proficient with PCs, Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and an advanced computer/internet user.
  • Attributes: Must be exceptionally self-disciplined, possess a powerful work ethic, and demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills.
