The International School of Kenya (ISK) is seeking a highly proactive and technically skilled Housing Caretaker to ensure that ISK faculty housing is safe, well-maintained, and clean in Nairobi. This critical school facilities job in Kenya requires a Diploma from a recognized technical college and a minimum of three years’ experience in building maintenance or facilities management, with proven exposure to multiple trades (plumbing, electrical, masonry). Role Overview

The Housing Caretaker is responsible for the overall maintenance and technical integrity of the residential portfolio. The role is highly independent, requiring the ability to manage competing priorities, diagnose technical issues across multiple trades, and ensure strict compliance with the school’s policies. Key duties include utilizing proficiency in MS Office and database management for reporting, providing excellent customer service to faculty residents, and demonstrating exceptional ethical standards and confidentiality.


Key Responsibilities

  • Building Maintenance: Ensure that all ISK faculty housing is consistently well-maintained, clean, and safe.
  • Multi-Trade Expertise: Apply strong mechanical and technical problem-solving skills across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, and masonry.
  • Supervision: Demonstrate the ability to supervise and evaluate the work and efficiency of other maintenance or cleaning staff.
  • Technical Management: Work proactively to anticipate maintenance needs; manage competing priorities and handle minor repairs independently.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills when engaging with faculty residents.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Utilize proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management for accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Uphold high ethical standards, maintain absolute confidentiality, and ensure compliance with ISK policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Skills and Qualities

  • Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in building maintenance or facilities management, with exposure to multiple trades.
  • Education: Diploma from a recognized technical college.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mechanical and technical problem-solving skills; proficiency in MS Office and email systems.
  • Interpersonal: Excellent communication (English and Kiswahili), organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; prior experience in an international, multicultural, or high-standard hospitality environment.
