Job Description
UNEP is recruiting an Environmental Law Specialist in Nairobi to facilitate high-level consultations and produce critical legal documentation. This role is pivotal for integrating feedback from parliamentary delegations and institutional partners into a consolidated legal framework. You will be responsible for articulating the rationale and expected outcomes of complex environmental projects.
Role Overview
The specialist will act as a technical facilitator between technical secretariats and policy makers. You will produce a “base document” for consultations and incorporate diverse inputs into a publication-ready final draft that addresses environmental rights and access to justice.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft foundational documents that integrate relevant legal references and project objectives.
- Facilitate consultation rounds with parliamentary delegations and institutional partners.
- Provide analytical summaries of consensus areas and proposed legal revisions.
- Develop explanatory presentations suitable for decision-makers and high-level stakeholders.
- Ensure all final legal outputs are in editable and publication-ready formats.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s) in Environmental Law.
- Minimum of two years of professional experience in environmental law or rights-based policy.
- Previous experience supporting parliamentarians on environmental matters is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of access to justice and public information rights.
