Disability Inclusive Youth Counselor

Role Overview

This role promotes disability inclusion within youth-focused Blue Economy programs by providing mentorship, advocacy, and community engagement to ensure meaningful participation of young persons with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate disability inclusion across program activities and delivery
• Support accessible and inclusive program design and implementation
• Promote participation of youth with disabilities in Blue Economy value chains
• Advocate for inclusive practices among enterprises and institutions
• Engage OPDs, community leaders, and local stakeholders
• Conduct awareness sessions and inclusion-focused training workshops
• Mentor and motivate youth with disabilities through peer leadership
• Track inclusion progress and collect participant feedback
• Support development of accessible communication and learning materials
• Advocate for reasonable accommodations during trainings and events

Qualifications

• Young adult with lived experience of disability
• Experience engaging youth, persons with disabilities, or marginalized groups
• Exposure to Blue Economy sectors is an advantage
• Strong commitment to disability inclusion and grassroots advocacy
• Ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Resident of Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, or Mombasa counties
• Strong understanding of local community contexts
