Deputy Head, Currency Technical Services (Manager 2)
Role Overview
This is a highly technical and leadership-oriented role responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and automation of currency processing systems across the Central Bank of Kenya’s Head Office, Branches, and Currency Centres. The position combines strategic oversight with hands-on technical coordination to guarantee uninterrupted currency operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership Focus
- Drive automation of currency processing operations across all CBK locations
- Provide strategic technical input to strengthen currency processing efficiency
- Support achievement of departmental and Bank-wide strategic objectives
Technical & Operational Execution
- Supervise installation, operation, servicing, and repair of currency processing equipment
- Oversee maintenance of banknote and coin processing systems, currency destruction systems, bulk handling and briquetting equipment
- Coordinate logistics for machine spare parts, consumables, and vendor support
- Ensure secure backup and storage of currency processing data
- Plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
- Liaise with vendors and technical teams during breakdowns, system failures, or data loss incidents
- Oversee commissioning, inspection, and testing of all currency equipment
Training, Safety & Support
- Train machine operators on correct usage, safety standards, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety and health requirements
- Provide technical support to staff across branches and centres
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Higher National Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field
- Relevant technical certification in electrical/electronic equipment maintenance
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in technical services, with at least 3 years in maintenance of electrical, electronic, or mechatronic systems
