Data Scientist

Role Overview

This role builds production-ready AI and machine learning systems to forecast food insecurity, integrating diverse datasets and expert feedback to enable early warning and proactive humanitarian responses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy end-to-end machine learning inference pipelines
  • Develop models to estimate and forecast food insecurity risks
  • Integrate satellite imagery, real-time data, and external data streams
  • Collaborate with WFP Country Offices to refine and validate models
  • Coordinate with technical teams on data platform design and sharing
  • Monitor and evaluate the operational impact of early warning systems
  • Ensure compliance with WFP data governance, privacy, and security standards
  • Maintain production-ready codebases and documentation
  • Participate in field missions, technical reviews, and dissemination events

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field
  • At least 5 years’ experience in data science or advanced analytics roles
  • Strong Python skills and experience with data science libraries
  • Advanced knowledge of machine learning and forecasting methods
  • Experience working with SQL databases and version control (Git)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in diverse teams
  • Fluency in English; French or Arabic is an advantage
