Data Scientist
Role Overview
This role builds production-ready AI and machine learning systems to forecast food insecurity, integrating diverse datasets and expert feedback to enable early warning and proactive humanitarian responses.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy end-to-end machine learning inference pipelines
- Develop models to estimate and forecast food insecurity risks
- Integrate satellite imagery, real-time data, and external data streams
- Collaborate with WFP Country Offices to refine and validate models
- Coordinate with technical teams on data platform design and sharing
- Monitor and evaluate the operational impact of early warning systems
- Ensure compliance with WFP data governance, privacy, and security standards
- Maintain production-ready codebases and documentation
- Participate in field missions, technical reviews, and dissemination events
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a quantitative field
- At least 5 years’ experience in data science or advanced analytics roles
- Strong Python skills and experience with data science libraries
- Advanced knowledge of machine learning and forecasting methods
- Experience working with SQL databases and version control (Git)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in diverse teams
- Fluency in English; French or Arabic is an advantage
