Job Description

Data Governance Manager

Role Overview

Control over information assets is a non-negotiable requirement for modern banking operations. This position exists to build and enforce a strict data governance framework that eliminates ambiguity in how data is handled across the bank. You will be the primary authority on data standards, responsible for ensuring that every department complies with the Kenya Data Protection Act and internal security protocols. The focus is on moving away from fragmented data management toward a centralized, audited system that treats information as a high-value resource.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and roll out the enterprise data governance roadmap to support specific banking business targets.
  • Set up a formal operating structure that defines exactly who owns and manages specific data sets.
  • Write the technical standards for data usage and maintain strict version control on all governance manuals.
  • Run the Data Stewards Working Group to ensure consistent information quality in every branch and department.
  • Work with Legal and IT Security to audit data access, encryption levels, and potential risk factors.
  • Map out data lineage and build a searchable business glossary to make information discovery easier for staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a similar field.
  • 5 to 7 years of direct experience managing data governance within a financial institution.
  • Practical experience leading technical teams through large-scale data projects.
  • Mastery of DAMA International standards and metadata management tools.
  • Professional certification such as CDMP® or DCAM is a significant advantage.
