Job Summary
The Communications & Marketing Specialist will lead the design and execution of a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with UNEP’s goals. This role involves strengthening the organization’s visibility, coordinating communications with key stakeholders, and managing high-impact marketing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Communications Planning
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the Unit.
Align all communications with UNEP’s broader goals and the Mitigation Branch’s objectives.
Prepare an annual communications workplan with clear timelines, activities, and resources.
2. Content Creation & Management
Oversee the creation of high-quality content across various platforms.
Supervise content creators and ensure consistent messaging.
Coordinate production of communication materials, reports, and digital campaigns.
3. Enhancing Visibility & Reputation
Design and implement initiatives that boost UNEP’s brand visibility.
Produce compelling communication resources and campaigns.
Ensure alignment with the Unit’s communications strategy.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with:
UNEP Communications team
Mitigation Branch Communications team
Project Communicators Network
GEF Coordination Office Communications Taskforce
Develop strategies for effective relationship management with internal and external stakeholders, including UNEP senior management, the GEF Secretariat, NGOs, and developing country representatives.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Advanced university degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Psychology, Public Relations, or a related field.
A first-level degree with 2+ additional years of relevant experience may be accepted.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or influencing.
Experience working with donors and NGOs is desirable.
Experience in communications with developing country governments is an advantage.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of communications strategy, branding, and stakeholder engagement.
Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
