Job Description
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is looking for a Communications Consultant to join the International Waters (IW) Unit in Nairobi. This role is essential for showcasing the impact of global water projects related to climate, nature, and pollution action. You will work under the supervision of the Chief of the IW Unit to develop high-quality content that resonates with both internal UN divisions and external global stakeholders.
Role Overview
You will develop and execute a communication strategy that aligns with GEF and UNEP visibility policies. Your work will involve producing a variety of multimedia content and technical highlights, ensuring that stories of environmental success reach a wide audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive communications strategy focusing on freshwater, marine, and groundwater systems.
- Create high-quality press releases, human-interest stories, and factsheets.
- Produce quarterly newsletters tailored for different audience groups, including UN Water and STAP.
- Coordinate visibility efforts with project-level focal points across the regional offices.
- Manage website content and provide strategic input for social media activities.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in Communications, Journalism, or Environmental Sciences.
- At least 5 years of experience in public information or media relations, ideally within an international organization.
- Specific experience (4+ years) in communications for environmental or water-related projects.
- Proficiency in multimedia production and digital visibility requirements.
