Job Description

The Commis Chef is a foundational culinary role responsible for supporting the kitchen team in the preparation and execution of high-quality menu items. This position focuses on maintaining rigorous standards for food safety, hygiene, and aesthetic presentation across appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The successful candidate will manage mise en place, operate diverse kitchen machinery, and ensure workstation efficiency. By adhering to standardized recipes and FIFO inventory protocols, the Commis Chef ensures a consistent and professional dining experience even during high-pressure peak hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of menu items, including soups, salads, and entrees, according to standardized recipes
• Conduct essential food preparation tasks such as chopping, seasoning, and organizing mise en place before service
• Set up, stock, and maintain clean and sanitized workstations throughout the shift
• Ensure all ingredients are properly labeled, dated, and rotated using the FIFO method to prevent spoilage
• Operate kitchen equipment including grills, fryers, and ovens safely and proficiently
• Collaborate with the wider culinary team to ensure the timely delivery of accurate food orders
• Perform quality checks on all ingredients and prepared products to meet company standards
• Assist with comprehensive kitchen opening and closing procedures, including deep cleaning duties
• Monitor stock levels and communicate inventory needs to the Chef or Manager promptly

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in Hospitality, Tourism, or a related field
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen, hospitality, or customer service support role
• Basic knowledge of food health and safety regulations and kitchen coordination
• Demonstrated ability to multitask and handle multiple orders simultaneously under pressure
• Flexibility to work extended hours and travel as required by the establishment
• Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to teamwork and professional integrity
