Role Overview

The Clinical Officer serves as the primary medical professional and operational manager for the Lodwar Medical Centre. Key responsibilities include taking patient history, examining, diagnosing, and treating common ailments at the outpatient facility, carrying out surgical procedures, implementing community healthcare activities, and ensuring efficient workflow. A strong managerial component includes supervising staff, preparing medico-legal reports, and leading quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Management: Take history, examine, diagnose, order and interpret laboratory/imaging investigations, and treat patients’ common ailments at the outpatient facility.
• Clinical Procedures: Carry out necessary surgical procedures.
• Operational Management: Manage the daily operations of the medical centre, ensuring efficient workflow and optimal patient experience.
• Staff Supervision: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate clinical and administrative staff within the centre.
• Community Health: Implement Community Healthcare activities in liaison with other health workers; guide and counsel patients/clients/staff on health issues.
• Quality & Compliance: Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives; comply strictly with hospital confidentiality and privacy policies.
• Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on the centre’s performance to the Head of Outreach; prepare and present medico-legal reports.
• Emergency Procedures (Advantage): Competency in emergency procedures (e.g., BLS, ACLS) is an added advantage.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
• Experience: At least three (3) years’ relevant work experience.
• Registration: Current practicing Certificate and Membership registration to the relevant professional body are mandatory.
• Skills: Proficiency in computer applications; evidence of continuous professional development.
