Tatu City Limited is seeking an experienced Clerk of Works- Interior Fit Out to oversee high-quality residential and commercial finishing works in Nairobi. This critical construction quality assurance job in Kenya requires a Diploma or undergraduate degree in building studies, construction, surveying or engineering, and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in delivering high-quality interior finishing works. The Clerk of Works will provide hands-on delivery and technical coordination, ensuring meticulous execution, quality compliance, and cost-effective completion of all interior components, including specialized joinery, cabinetry, and MEP interfaces.

Role Overview

The Clerk of Works will act as the design team’s on-site representative, ensuring meticulous quality control for all interior finishes, fixtures, and fittings. Key duties involve leading day-to-day site coordination of multiple trades, resolving design/buildability issues directly on site, managing the delivery and quality of specialized materials (timber, stone), preparing comprehensive quality checklists and snag lists/punch lists, and documenting all works through structured photographic records leading up to homeowner handover.


Key Responsibilities

  • Site Coordination & Delivery: Lead and coordinate day-to-day interior fit-out activities; manage sequencing and integration of trades (partitions, ceilings, joinery, tiling, MEP interfaces).
  • Quality Control & Inspection: Prepare quality checklists for key residential spaces (kitchens, bathrooms); conduct progressive inspections; identify defects, and manage snag lists/punch lists leading up to handover.
  • Technical Execution: Resolve design, detailing, construction, and buildability issues directly on site (producing sketches or technical notes); verify field measurements and “as-built” conditions.
  • Fixtures & Fittings: Oversee installation of fixtures, fittings, equipment, sanitary ware, bespoke joinery, and cabinetry.
  • Materials Management: Coordinate procurement and delivery of interior materials; review physical samples and mock-ups for approval; manage proper storage, handling, and on-site quality protection of all finishes.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed daily site logs documenting progress, materials, and emerging issues; document all progress and concealed works through structured photographic records.
  • Handover: Coordinate testing/commissioning of interior elements (lighting controls, appliances); prepare as-built information, warranties, and O&M manuals.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 7 years’ experience in delivering high-quality interior finishing works.
  • Sector Knowledge: Proven experience in commercial and/or residential interior fit-out projects, with strong knowledge of finishing standards and installation processes.
  • Education: Diploma or undergraduate degree in relevant subjects (building studies, construction, surveying or engineering).
  • Skills: Ability to resolve technical issues on site; strong knowledge of MEP interfaces, joinery, and specialized finishes.
