DESCRIPTION

The Theatre Incharge is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and optimization of operating theatre services. This includes overseeing daily operations, ensuring equipment and inventory readiness, enhancing team satisfaction, supporting surgical teams, and driving business development initiatives to improve the utilization and revenue of theatre services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organize, and oversee the daily functioning of operating theatres to ensure smooth surgical workflows.
  • Develop and implement theatre schedules in coordination with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing teams.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Monitor surgical turnaround times and implement measures to optimize efficiency.
  • Oversee the availability, functionality, and maintenance of surgical equipment.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and timely repairs with the Biomedical Engineering department.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels of surgical instruments, consumables, and sterile supplies.
  • Liaise with procurement to ensure cost-effective and timely purchasing.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for surgeons, anesthetists, and theatre staff regarding operational needs.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of issues affecting surgical teams.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance work environment.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions with medical and support staff to improve service delivery.
  • Ensure all infection prevention and control protocols are adhered to in theatres.
  • Conduct regular audits to maintain high standards of cleanliness, sterilization, and safety.
  • Investigate and report incidents, near-misses, and deviations from clinical protocols.
  • Monitor surgical outcomes and implement continuous improvement measures.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase theatre utilization and revenue.
  • Identify new surgical services, partnerships, and marketing opportunities.
  • Track performance metrics and prepare monthly performance and financial reports.
  • Collaborate with marketing and Business Development teams to promote theatre capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Higher Diploma in Perioperative/Theatre Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in theatre operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, theatre equipment, and infection control standards.
  • Experience in budgeting, inventory management, and business development in healthcare.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Business acumen with the ability to identify and act on growth opportunities.
