Branch Manager – Supermarket
Role Overview
This role runs the branch end-to-end: people, stock, compliance, and performance. You will drive targets, keep inventory disciplined, protect the business through ethical procurement, and maintain standards that make the store reliable for customers every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and execute a branch plan aligned to retail chain targets
- Lead the retail team, including guidance, performance support, leave management, and grievance handling
- Manage stock turnover using FIFO and act fast on low-stock signals
- Identify obsolete and slow-moving items and recommend corrective actions
- Procure high-quality goods while enforcing transparency and preventing malpractices
- Maintain store safety and security for people, goods, and cash handling processes
- Participate in stock takes (monthly, quarterly, annual) and address variances with clear follow-up
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date branch records and documentation
- Review category and brand performance weekly and monthly and take corrective action
- Keep current on retail trends, best practices, and relevant technologies
- Manage budgets, resources, and vendors for cost-effective operations
- Drive brand visibility and local awareness initiatives to support store objectives
- Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual branch budgets
- Track consumer behaviour and translate customer preferences into better execution
- Receive goods, arrange stocking per layout standards, and update the system for all stock movements
- Ensure compliance across all operational requirements and confirm licenses are current
Qualifications
- Degree in Business Administration or a related field
- At least 3 years’ experience in retail management
- Demonstrated procurement knowledge with a clear ethical approach
- Knowledge of SAGE or similar systems is an advantage
- Strong analytical skills, leadership ability, communication, and report writing skills
- Results-driven, agile, and comfortable in fast-paced environments
- High integrity and strong accountability
