Role Summary
WUSC is seeking an experienced Consultant/Consultancy Firm to lead a Business Development Services (BDS) Analysis for the childcare sector in Kenya and Malawi. The role will strengthen business ecosystems that serve childcare providers, with a strong focus on gender equality, inclusivity, and women’s economic empowerment under the ACT Project.
Key Responsibilities
BDS Ecosystem Mapping: Identify key BDS providers and stakeholders in Kenya and Malawi; assess their services for childcare businesses.
Needs Assessment: Analyze business, finance, and entrepreneurship skill gaps for women childcare providers.
Review Training Approaches: Evaluate and adapt existing BDS training methodologies for inclusivity and gender responsiveness.
Develop Frameworks: Design a comprehensive BDS capacity-strengthening framework tailored for childcare providers.
Support Matching Grant Program: Provide technical input on design, eligibility criteria, and gender-responsive grant utilization.
Deliver Reports: Produce inception, ecosystem mapping, training materials review, and final consultancy reports.
Consultant Qualifications
Master’s degree in Business, Gender Studies, International Development, Social Sciences, or related field.
At least 7 years’ experience in SME support, capacity strengthening, or business development.
Proven expertise in gender analysis, intersectional approaches, and program design.
Experience working in East Africa, especially Kenya and Malawi, is an advantage.
Demonstrated experience with grant design, training curriculum development, and stakeholder engagement.
Knowledge of childcare sector, social enterprises, or early childhood development projects is highly desirable.
Contract Duration
Expected period: 25th September 2025 – 31st March 2026.
Deliverables include detailed reports, training frameworks, and matching grant design inputs.
