Associate Task Manager
Role Overview
This role focuses on GEF project preparation and project cycle management, working closely with stakeholders, partners, and consultants to develop quality project documentation and ensure alignment with GEF requirements and UNEP programme priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and formulate new project concepts and proposals in coordination with partners and beneficiaries and, where relevant, other focal areas
- Work with stakeholders to design project concepts aligned with GEF objectives, national and regional priorities, and UNEP programme of work
- Coordinate preparation of Project Identification Form (PIF) and CEO Endorsement Request packages
- Provide technical support and quality control before submission to UNEP internal review processes and to donors
- Develop road maps for the project preparation phase (PPG)
- Support consultants and partners to prepare and edit required project documents and meet submission timelines
- Manage project cycle activities for projects under implementation, including coordination and delivery oversight
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in international development, environmental economics, or related field, or
- First-level university degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience in lieu of an advanced degree
- At least 7 years’ relevant professional experience managing GEF projects related to International Waters or Chemicals and Waste
- Familiarity with the UN system and strong understanding of freshwater, marine, and pollution-related issues
- Demonstrated project management and research skills
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Desirable:
- Understanding of GEF policies and project requirements
- Ability to build working relationships with government and non-government partners
- Ability to take initiative and work with limited supervision
