Job Description
All Saints’ Cathedral is seeking a qualified Accountant to manage its financial operations in Nairobi. This critical NGO finance job in Kenya requires a Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field, mandatory CPA/ACCA finalist status, and at least 5 years’ experience as an Accountant. The Accountant will be responsible for reviewing system postings, tracking debtors, coordinating the counting and banking of offertory, managing petty cash and bank reconciliations, preparing the Cathedral payroll, filing tax returns (VAT, withholding, corporate tax), and preparing management reports for the Investment Committee.

The Accountant role is crucial for ensuring financial transparency, robust internal controls, statutory compliance (KRA tax filings), and prudent management of the Cathedral’s investment portfolio.
Role Overview
The Accountant provides hands-on financial control and reporting, balancing transactional accuracy with strategic oversight. Key duties include reviewing P&L and Balance Sheet postings for accuracy, actively tracking debtors and liaising for collection, enforcing internal controls in petty cash and conducting asset verification, managing the full payroll cycle, ensuring accurate tax filings, and preparing monthly departmental and management reports for the Investment Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Review: Review postings in the systems (P&L and balance sheet items) for accuracy and address discrepancies noted.
- Offertory & Cash Management: Coordinate accurate counting, recording, and banking of offertory for the Cathedral services as per procedures; review petty cash vouchers and enforce internal controls by conducting physical petty cash counts and assets verification.
- Debtor Management: Track debtors in the system and liaise with relevant teams for collection; pursue long outstanding debts.
- Statutory Compliance: Prepare and file VAT, withholding, and corporate tax returns in strict compliance with statutory requirements.
- Payroll & Payments: Prepare Cathedral payroll and pay slips; review payment vouchers and online payments; prepare cash flow reports and monitor bank cash position.
- Reporting & Budget: Prepare monthly departmental and management reports; monitor budget at approval of payment and conduct monthly variance tracking.
- Audit & Investment: Liaise with external auditors and provide relevant documents; prepare roll over instructions for Cathedral investments and coordinate Investment Committee meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: At least 5 years’ experience as an Accountant.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
- Certification: CPA/ACCA finalist status is mandatory.
- Professional Status: Member of a professional accounting body in good standing.
- Skills: Strong Analytical and Attention to details; Financial reporting, Planning and organization, and high level of Integrity.
